Nottingham Trent University student young match officials’ shirts were also presented by players Will Sutton and Ben Brownlie last month (November) before Nottingham played Doncaster.

Steve Smith, operations manager at Nottingham Rugby, said “It was a pleasure to be able to provide an opportunity for students from Nottingham Trent University to celebrate their achievements and have their YMO shirts presented by the Championship players, prior to the game.”

Nottingham Trent University’s Sport Development Officer (Rugby) Dan Edson said: “The Young Match Officials Programme importantly supports rugby within the university environment to ensure that there are games for everyone who wants to play. Students receiving their shirts had already refereed a number of games and this was both reward and encouragement to continue their good work.”

Match Official Development Officer John Widdowson added: “Occasions like these are vital in ensuring that young match officials are recognised not only for completing, but for using their newly acquired skills to support player growth. Supported by qualified officials, these students are ensuring that games take place at all levels.”
