Said Community Rugby Coach Adam Blackford: “We thought we would be running one session but the area has seen such huge growth in interest in rugby over the past 12 to 18 months, with engagement and participation increasing massively, and we ended up having to split the event over two clubs.”

Fourteen clubs were involved in the sessions at Bournville RFC’s new ground and Walsall RFC’s new artificial grass pitch.

Five of the 14 teams were only established this season, not having played rugby before.

The whole event was supported by Young Match Officials, supported by Match Officials Development Officer Claire Antcliffe, as well as a  Community Rugby Coaching team of Adam, Patrick Hill, Tim Pickard, Jon Critchlow, Tom Huggins, and RDOs Scott Sturdy and Stu Eades.
