Wherever you are in your journey as a referee, each of these toolkits
provides support to help you grow as a referee and to get even more
enjoyment from blowing the whistle.
In this section the 9 match official toolkits are structured in terms of:
- Training & Development - access to a variety of online courses, videos and webinars designed to improve your level of knowledge and understanding;
- Supporting Match Officials - discussion groups, courses, videos and webinars that are aimed at a specific community within match official family i.e. women and girls;
- Resources - access to online forms, referee societies or information about the National League.
It is an invaluable resource, compiled by RFU educators and featuring the insights and experiences of some of the most respected match officials in the game.

Referee toolkits
The Referee Toolkits are a series of online and downloadable resources designed to provide information and guidance on various player welfare topics. The toolkits are separated into 'bite-size' topics to provide information and guidance to support clubs and other rugby activity organisers in delivering best practice.
1. Award Courses
Information and registration details about the England Rugby Introduction to Refereeing course as well as the England Rugby Refereeing Award and the England Rugby Advanced Match Official Award.
2. Webinars & Podcasts
The 2020/21 lockdowns allowed England Rugby to host a large number of webinars and to invite professional referees to discuss their experiences and to share insights and tips. Choose from 13 webinars hosted by RFU Educators in the company of officials such as Wayne Barnes, Matt Carley, Christophe Ridley and many others.
3. e-Learning Courses
Develop your knowledge and understanding off the pitch as well as on it. Access up to 13 different courses whether it’s the Pre-Match Brief, player safety or how to officiate specific aspects of the game i.e. Refereeing the Scrum or Refereeing the Tackle.
4. Women Match Officials
As the women’s game continues to grow so too does the number of female match officials. This toolkit celebrates what it is to be a female official with advice on how to get started, groups to join and what it’s like to perform at the highest level.
5. Young Match Officials (YMO)
Are a Young Person looking to get involved in officating? Are you an Adult thinking of developing a Young Match Official (YMO) Programme or currently supporting young people in Rugby Union?
This toolkit provides the YMO Guidebook (New!), stories from Young People in Officiating about how YMO Programmes have impacted them, and loads of handy resources to help support young people.
