Registration has now opened for Warrior Camps across the country with the wave of camps taking place from 12th – 27th January.
A typical Warrior Camp consists of paired activities that are used to teach participants the skills and techniques of rugby. The activities require players to work together, to all learn, have fun and succeed during the Warrior Camp.
This January, rather than making a new year’s resolution that will be broken by the end of the month, England Rugby is encouraging women to take on a new challenge, try rugby and free their inner warrior.
The campaign offers women a less daunting way of broadening their horizons as it encourages women to step out of their comfort zone with a fun introduction to rugby.
During the Warrior Camps, women are encouraged to unleash their inner strength and determination as they embrace the challenge of trying a new sport.
Rugby is one of the fastest growing female sports in England with the Inner Warrior campaign helping to bring thousands of new players into the game.
“There are still so many new players at the club which is testament to the club’s inviting and fun atmosphere, with a new person joining us almost every two weeks and meeting with like-minded people,” says Sarah Burgess, who managed a Warrior Camp hosted by Bath Ladies Rugby Club.
“There’s a real mix of experience and so lots of room for new players to get involved.”
Bath Ladies RFC newcomer, Lily Stone is now playing regular rugby for the club side having turned up to a Warrior Camp.
“I had such a great time at the Warrior Camp, I’ve been returning ever since, even playing my first game for Bath Ladies earlier this month. It was daunting but great fun as the team were all so supportive; helping me understand where I needed to be on the pitch and guiding me.
“If you’re looking for a team sport that keeps you fit and is really social, rugby could be for you. Playing every Tuesday is my main motivation to get me through a busy working day.”
All you’ll need to take part are a pair of trainers and some comfortable training clothes.
