What was it that got you into developing and supporting referees?
Due to injury, I knew I couldn’t referee anymore but I still had a passion for the game, and wanted to give back some of my knowledge to help others.
What’s the most rewarding thing about your role?
Seeing referees take all my advice on board, putting it into practice and improving their own game.
Tell us about your local refereeing society.
HSRFUR is a small but growing society, and we’re producing some quality referees at the moment: Anthony Woodthorpe, Jack Sutton and Matt Sharpe to name a few, and we’ve got some great female referees like Katherine Richie coming through the system too.
What’s match officiating done for you personally?
It’s kept me in the game after I gave up playing and coaching. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do next, but thankfully the whistle came calling and I have never looked back.
