When some of his squad suggest that their upcoming match is not much of a competition and he needs to think differently, Mr Bone is rather taken aback! No one has ever told him about putting the wants and needs of his players first.
As Felix points out, winning is important but it’s not everything. Mr Bone needs to get hold of a copy of the Age Grade Rugby Codes of Practice and become more player-centred. With confidence, he can then say, “I’m in!”
You may not be old-school but the Codes of Practice have has some great pointers about how to put the needs and wants of children first. But then again, you may know a Mr Bone, or two?
