On Sunday the 30th October we ran our first of Club Essex Referee’s Session held at Thurrock RFC.

Following an initial email campaign to all Essex Rugby Clubs, which generated 39 members, with 25 attending on the day.

Objectives:

To empower existing club and new referees across the CB with new skills,
by adding education, and best practice.
To increase referee education by driving level 1 & 2 courses, and to
increase the number of club referees
To invite all club referees & representatives to 1 of 4 induction referee
camps that will be conducted across the CB. (North, East, South & West).
Formulate Club Essex; every new member will receive an Essex RFU Shirt, to
wear on match days thus taking the onus away from their club recognition
Install a level of commitment to education and ongoing referee knowledge.
Increase the Essex RFU Brand across all clubs.
Learning Development:

On Sunday the delegates were presented with the following

World Rugby Laws Update
New CMOD Refereeing the Tackle
Learning Outcome:

Candidates are now fully aware of the new laws, and their interpretation for
the game they manage each Saturday or Sunday
Challenged the candidates as to their understanding of the tackle. By using
group discussion and video’s. Agreed a standard understanding of what a
tackle IS, and what it is NOT.
All candidates agreed away ahead and with buy in from all to commit to
increasing self development & the sharing of good practice, whilst
encouraging all club referee’s to get on board.
Future Development & Training.

Next date and location to be confirmed, depending on the forthcoming arrival of the new Todd child.
Likely to be held at Chelmsford RFC early /late January
Topic Ruck / Maul
Looking to double numbers and commitment
Increase Sharing of good practice and learning outcomes across all members, whilst sharing new lessons learnt from inaugural learning at Thurrock.
Ensure all Essex Clubs are accredited and show commitment to their referee development, so that they may enhance their own playing enjoyment, whilst embracing the RFU Core values at their very heart.
Finally all referees to full commit to:
